Learning for Life is an integral part of everyday life within Northgate School Arts College and promotes the general ethos of the school. It is directly linked to the schools’ overall policy on behaviour and is reflected in all aspects of school life.
The Learning for Life curriculum is an amalgamation of three subject areas; PSHE, Citizenship and Careers Education Information and Guidance (CEIAG). It has been developed in this way in response to the curricular overlap within these subject areas and to maximise the pupils understanding.
PHSE is a planned programme of learning through which children and young people acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives. As part of a whole school approach, PSHE develops the qualities and attributes pupils need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society. The PSHE content covers issues relating to; Relationship and Sex Education, drug education, personal safety, bullying, rights and responsibilities and healthy living.
Citizenship helps young people to develop the knowledge, skills and conviction to play an effective role in their local, national and global communities. It inspires young people to take part in society as equal members and responsible citizens. Pupils learn about issues related to democracy, social justice, human rights and identity and diversity from a range of perspectives. They learn to form their own opinion, speak out and take action on issues important to them.
