Medical & Welfare Team

The medical and welfare team consists of

The team provides support and facilitates the needs of students across a variety of areas. They assist the Students, Educational staff, Support staff and parents/carers in understanding the requirements of individual care and medical issues at school/College and at home. Enabling students to access their educational needs in a safe and nurturing environment.

This may include;

  • Management and Administering of Medications (including rescue medication i.e. Midazolam, jextpen)
  • Clinical/medical procedure support and care
  • Providing Care plans and Supporting students to manage on-going health conditions
  • Hygiene and toileting, including lifting and handling
  • First aid
  • Manage accidents, illness and emergency situations (i.e. epilepsy, diabetes)
  • Pastoral support
  • Advice and support to staff and parents
  • Staff training
  • Assisting Health, Sex and relationship programmes
  • Safeguarding issues

Our staff team also assist with, and facilitate individual therapy programs, which are overseen by professional Therapists.

  • Physio therapy programs, including standing therapy
  • Hydro therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Orthotics
  • Counselling services
  • Speech and Language
  • GP’s

The Medical & Welfare Team liaise closely with other Health and social care services, for example;

  • Dentists
  • Consultant paediatricians
  • Children & Young Peoples Nurses
  • Physiotherapists
  • Dieticians
  • Wheelchair Services
  • Community Team for people with learning difficulties

The Medical & Welfare Staff are available throughout the school day and work across the school sites.
